6.5/10The restaurant was light and elegant overlooking Balmoral Beach and was a delight to dine in. The fish of the day was beautifully cooked and the little golden square of fried polenta was delectable though shame there was only one on the plate. The Alaskan crab tagliatelle was good though we bits of shell in the pasta.

10/10A wonderfully warm welcome on arrival. We were celebrating my husband's birthday and there is no better location - gorgeous view (even when it's pouring with rain), great service and stunning food. Our waitress for the evening was Bernadette who was warm, attentive and engaging. We kicked off with a James Boag and Hendricks & Tonic which arrived promptly. For entree my husband had the grilled pork belly, fermented chilli glaze, perilla leaf, pickled tasmanian walnut, chilli & black garlic aioli, sunflower seeds which was tender and really tasty. I had the crispy flash fried calamari, smoked paprika, rocket & garlic aioli which is always beautiful. Our main courses were beer battered fish (daily catch), hand cut chips, sheeps yoghurt tartare sauce which was yummy (the chips are a little too chunky with a lot of potato) and the grilled cornfed chicken breast, soubise, black lentils, charred apricot, pine nut & golden raisin salsa, chicken jus which was gorgeous and so succulent. And as a wonderful surprise at the end of the night my husband received a little lemon tart with raspberry on the top on a plate saying "happy birthday" - a lovely touch and the perfect end to a fantastic night.

8.5/10Perfect location, right on Balmoral Beach so a great place to watch the world go by. Balmoral what super busy on the day of our visit so this is the perfect spot to get away from the madness. I really enjoyed my crab pasta dish, my wife found her soufflé to be too much for lunch time. It was super tasty but she should have chosen something lighter. My 11 year old daughter enjoyed her pasta and dessert pavlova off the kids menu. Service was attentive and I'll definitely go back.

9/10Always a lovely spot on balmoral beach. We always enjoy coming back here, especially on Wednesdays when we can byo. Most of the time it's a great experience but this time was a bit of hit and miss. Was a full house on the earlier 6.30 seating so the staff were kept very busy. Our wait staff did her best but she was a little frazzled (and looked it). Made us feel a little stressed for her. Food is usually great but this menu had a few flaws. The market fish dish was quite dry, was just a piece of Barra with one spring onion, a small potato croquette of some kind and one other thing but no sauce or puree with the dish. The grilled pork belly was nice but the crab tagliatelle lacked seasoning and flavour. A bit of a let down listing pepper and chilli on the dish but making it so mild that it was completely undetectable. We'd definitely be back as usual and hope the dishes are better next time..

10/10The service was excellent, the view was amazing. We had the lamb shoulder which was cooked to perfection with delicious potatoes, carrots and mushrooms. I hope i get the opportunity to dine there again.

8/10The view and ambience was amazing, and we had some lovely and attentive service. Food was nicely presented - highly recommend the wagyu tartare, we wished we ordered one each instead of to share! The rest of the food we ordered was nice but nothing to write home about.

7/10Ordered the Alaskan king crab tagliatelle and the dish was very bland and what was worse was a piece of shell I bit into. Told waitress when clearing the plate and she said will give feedback to kitchen but didn't really seem to care much. Also ordered the Moreton Bay Bug, they slice it in half and one side was cooked well while the other side was slightly undercooked which wasn't great Was a bit disappointed this time round as I have been to public dining room once before and the food was much better.

If you've made it to Balmoral Baths, then you've pretty much got the location sorted. Tick one for Public Dining Room. As you sit in this bright, contemporary room with huge dome lights punctuating the open space, floor-to-ceiling windows and warm timbers throughout, spirits and instantly raised. When heart-warming, tasty food is served you know you've hit a winner. Tick Two for Public Dining Room.The focus here is on casual fine food – supporting Australian ingredients, suppliers and sustainable seafood wherever possible. Breakfasts of smashed avocado on Sonoma toast with Yarra Valley fetta and seasonal Portobello mushrooms covered with grana padano are a popular choice. Lunch and dinner options run from oyster selections, to gin-cured trout or Thirlmere duck (confit and smoked). It's good for the soul type food served in a picture perfect setting - the kind of dining experience that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Who doesn't want a bit of that?
