I was surprised that they did not know we were coming and did not know that we had a reservation; however when I showed them the text confirming our reservation they were very welcoming and we had an enjoyable meal

The Turbot was inedible. It appeared to have been microwaved and was a lump of rubber it was promised with dill but came with a heavy and overpowering tomato sauce.. The frites were just English style chips. The restaurant is on a very busy D road to Reims so HGVs rushed past he windows constantly..

This restaurant, formerly co-owned with a nearby hotel/motel provided an excellent stopover en route from Calais to Provence. A few minutes from the A26, the village is unassuming, but has a bar/tabac, church and tank museum as well as hospitality.
I chose the Norwegian platter (smoked salmon, prawns and whelks) for starters. My wife and our friend had the avocado and crab cocktail. Both were great.
We all had the "poire" (closest English equivalent would be hanger) of beef as a main course. Perfectly cooked per our requests, tender and absolutely delicious!
The only negative aspects were that it was very quiet for a Friday night. I recall that the only tables occupied were by English parties also travelling to/from France.
I took a rain chain-check on the vintage Armagnacs available for digestif. It's worth a look as you won't find a 1940 vintage easily elsewhere!
Service wasn't brisk, but the bill - when it finally arrived - was reasonable, given the very fine quality of food and cooking.
