Welcome to our fine dining restaurant Le Début The Hague! Our hotel school students are here to give you a unique hospitality experience. While enjoying organic and locally produced food, you are served by Hotelschool The Hague's international students. Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility play a central role. Our motto is "The best ingredients don't have to travel far!" The kitchen is run by hotel management students under guidance of instructors, who will always seek for new combinations of food within the season. You can either choose for a menu, which is always according to the season, or choose from our à la carte menu. Of course these special dishes are accompanied by corresponding wines.

Every week, our students create a new weekly menu. They prefer vegetable rich dishes without any artificial ingredients. We cook in an honest way, are passionate and always follow the latest food trends. Of course we take all your personal food preferences into consideration.

AMAZING seven course dinner with wine pairing - Gin Tonic oyster to die for -
Service is top notch; very friendly, attentive and explained every course of meal - Beautifully presented food - We will definitely go again.

We like this restaurant where we come every year to celebrate our daughter's birthday.
However, we felt a little disappointed this year. We know this is a hotel school and the young people serving and in the kitchen are in training, but the food was not as good and special as normal. We also found the service very choppy. Wether 1st year or second year students supposed to supervise, no one paid much attention to us. No bread left on the table, one order of wine forgotten, no superviser noticed. It was not the best experience we had there. As for tbe food, it was ok but nothing special. We feel quantities were reduced too.

We have had a wonderfull experience. Ben, our waiter, did a terrific job! This restaurant is managed by students from the school. It is a learning experience. They all are very knowledgable and highly motivated. The food was fresh and well prepared. We missed table cloth on our table. That would be our only remark. A job well done!

The quality of the food was very good and it was well presented . Friendly service and a pleasant restaurant interior. Wine paring was interesting and varied. Not to be missed.

We are true fans. Have dined several time in Le Debut. The new more loose interior design seems to have influenced the dishes and the coaching of the students. The dishes: at firsts sight look nice, but enthousiatically overdecorated and thus a combination of too many flavors, that end up in: "what are we tasting?" Though appreciating nouvelle cuisine, most vegetables were under cooked or too raw. The bread, olive oil etc. was still at the table at dessert? Etc.
As for the menu. Keep it (more) simple, do not overdo, concentrate on the tastes and stick to simple small decorations that enhance the dishes.
My advise regarding the menu and for kitchen(staff): try to connect to the school a professional well known Dutch chef to screen the menu and to help the students get started with it. And let him check their proceedings periodically! This goes for the kitchen and the restaurant.
As to the training/coaching of the students. They were really trying their best, but it was obvious that there was no guidnace, no real host with an overview, the person that keeps an eye on all things. Gives the place allure.They were a bit lost.
Since it is a important part of their education and training, I think the school has to do its utmost to provide the students the best teaching, learning and coaching environment.
Hotel School the Hague is the 5th best hotelschool of the world, that did not show last night in Le Debut and I felt sorry for the students in the restaurant and in the kitchen, because I saw it as a lack of guidance, to which they are entitled.


There is still a lot to be gained on all these areas. You owe it to the students.

I was with some friends. The food was delicious and we really enjoyed it. The wines filled very well with the food.
The waiting time between each plate was a bit long, but it's ok because I was with my friends :-)

We enjoyed our evening very much, and were delighted to be invited to view the kitchen! The bill was not quite correct, 3 coffees and 1 tea instead of 2 coffees and 1 tea. And a little disappointed at the price of the "tap water".

Very nice presentation and students really tried to explain and serve and host. Most dishes were excellent and all very creative. Some dishes could use a bit more spicing up, but presentation was beautiful.

A nice surprise, the food was innovative and of high quality. The smoked duck was had the right smoked taste, not imposing but just present. The halibut was presented in an innovative way, but it could have been cooked just minute shorter. We had strict time limits and they were well respected by the staff.

Very nice that there is so much attention for the guests. Not too many tables, lots of space between the tables. You feel that your presence and satisfaction as a guest is seen as really important. Classic level and style of hospitality combined with modern food and drink without too much pretension that cannot be lived up to. really good value for money. Great experience. I will defenitly come back!

Good food, well decorated dishes with a lot of work but in almost insufficient quantity for the main course. The dessert is almost too copious. A little bit too long time between meals. Nice restaurant, quite place, good service.

the food was not very good; the mashed potatoes were tasteless, the main coarse looked like a chaos and really took very long to come. The rolls for the children were too much and not really special; al lot of pastry, not good. And my son spit out the sushi, because the taste was bad. I thought the rice in the sushi was toooo sticky, too wet.

Perfect food and wine and really enjoyable evening at a reasonable price. The students didna great kob and were very attentive, my wine and water glass were always full and the timing between courses was perfect. Thank you for an enjoyable evening and we will definitely be back!
