About the restaurant Restaurant Maceo

"Mark Williamson did not have to exert his talent too much to make Macéo a decidedly different restaurant.

Originality is a rule of life for him. Macéo is above all a place: close to the jardins du Palais Royal and a few meters from its famous Willi's Wine Bar, the first and probably the most famous wine bar in Paris.

There, within these classified walls of the 18th century, he has created a place where a few fans of the subtleties of the cuisine of Thierry Bourbonnais love to meet in an exceptional setting.

Here, tradition and modernity combine to cause bold encounters that will leave you with very pleasant memories."

Wonderful French food that was lighter and healthier then standard French fare. There are several vegetarian options which were greatly appreciated since my husband and I frequently eat vegetarian only. The staff was friendly and efficient and the menu prix is moderate. Overall a fantastic experience.

This is an excellent restaurant for English speakers looking for fast service. The personnel speak English (even if you would rather speak French.) Service personnel rush about the dining room setting a pace that is appreciated for diners in a hurry, disconcerting if you would prefer a relaxed dinner. Very nice setting at the Palais Royale. Lovely interior with a choice of a white linen dining room or a more casual bar seating. Did I mention the food?

Delighted to find a restaurant which takes exquisite care with every detail. For appetizers, the duck foie gras was flavored & scented with strawberries, a surprising delight, while the soft-cooked egg stood on a gentle emerald puree of greens. The entree of rolled strips of sole around a smooth filling was delicious, while the steak was accompanied by tiny chanterelles is a rich yet light sauce. For dessert, the standout was lightly cooked pear slices with lime sorbet. The chocolate mousse cake with coffee ice cream was decadently yummy. Very friendly service in a spacious setting, quite a change from tables jammed together. Memorable and worth repeating and recommending .

Very nice menu and wine card, and great cooking for the vegetarian dishes ! Two negative sides though : we asked for a quiet table but were put in the middle of the room, and were not offered an aperitif to start, all in all the service was a little fast, like we were expected to leave soon. But the restaurant all in all was good!

Very good selection of wine and food, nice choice for vegetarians. Service was excellent. Classy but not too fancy, place wasn't crowded, music could have been more noticeable. Overall feeling very nice.

Not completely together. And although they had some vegetarian options.. it does not out weigh the sometimes spacey service (our busser was better than our waiter) and the food was ok. .but not amazing
. Ambiance was ok. But not outstanding. All in all a 2.5 out of5

We chose this restaurant because it had something for both vegetarians and meat eaters. The mousseline de lentilles was a very satisfying vegetarian dish. The veal, however, was a bit bland. Appetizers were excellent and the wine list was comprehensive. Service was outstanding, friendly but not intrusive.

Dinner was very good, starting with an amuse bouche of cream of celery soup -- very tasty. My entree was a fig dish with two different kinds of figs in a balsamic dressing. Also very good. Plats were rabbit (despite this being a vegetarian restaurant) with pureed potatoes and mushrooms and gnocchi with pear and mushrooms. Skipped dessert but had coffee (very hot -- watch out) and tea. Price with tax and tip was €135 for two. Restaurant is directly behind Palais Royal but the entrance is on rue des Petits Champs. A little on the noisy side but not outrageously so. Servers speak French and English and can explain the menu which is on the limited side -- maybe 5 choices for entrees and 5 for plats. Still very good; we plan to return.
