Unfortunately I have to write a bad review of a restaurant that was for nearly 20 years my favourite. It was and is family run. In past years I have written on this site great reviews but alas those years have gone. Last night was the worst meal I have been offered in my48 year’s coming to Portugal. On arrival the table was laid out with ham cheese jam and bread which I hadn’t ordered. I was offered a very restricted menu and I chose the soup which was bland. I then ordered the mixed cuts and chips. I could not believe what was put in front of me. A plate with one small grizzly pork chop, a little string on small bones a half sheet of soft bones 2 small tomatoes and chips which I found to be unedible. A far cry from my previous report which said they had the best chips in the Algarve if not in Portugal. The 3/4 uneaten meal was removed by the waiter without a word. As I was very annoyed and insulted by the offering when paying the bill I just said nothing an left with a heavy heart voying never to return.

Ambiente muito simpático. Staff muito eficiente e simpático. Apenas um senão; nessa noite havia fado e praticamente a fadista actuou todo o tempo do jantar. Apesar de gostarmos de fado achamos que foi demasiado tempo porque quando se canta o fado claro que requer silêncio. Fomos com amigos e o intuito do jantar era o convívio, o que não foi possível.

Been looking forward to visiting this restaurant and was not disappointed. It is a lovely location and the service was excellent. The menu is based around Portuguese cuisine rather than international and the stuffed squid I chose and my wife’s ribeye steak were both good choices. The desserts we had were also very good and with the exception of €16 for a G&T I felt the prices were generally reasonable.

Restaurante familiar, cozinha tradicional portuguesa de excelente confeção, qualidade acima da média, ambiente agradável com excelente esplanada, funcionários simpáticos e disponiveis. Recomendo

We have been dining at Retiro de Campones for many many years and have enjoyed it immensely. It has changed radically over the past couple of years and become very smart. We’re sad that it’s not the casual rustic local restaurant that it used to be with its basic menu and family atmosphere. However, we had a pleasant evening there yesterday but perhaps we won’t visit as often as we used to.

Good menu with plenty of choice and extensive wine list . Service rather rushed - starters arrived before we had a chance to finish the covers and before the wine arrived. Similar with main course. Prices a bit on the high side.

small barking neighbour dog… not their fault, table repaired with triplex wood with screws sticking out so you could hurt yourself, Fork system does not specify outside or inside, so they wanted to place us inside ( not the purpose) but did their best to help out… food ok , desert excellent typical it is difficult to have in Portugal a ‘saignant’ steak so it sometimes deceives

I am a client of Retiro do Camponês for many years now. It was always a pleasant place to have a nice, relaxed and holiday mood diner. It is also very good to know that the restaurant is growing and becoming more known between the tourist and all. However it is now a super crowded place, the staff is running to get the service done and they will not spend more than needed at your table and have the attention they used to have. We also noticed that the prices of the menu increased and the size of the doses decreased. I wish them all the best, just wanted to share that the restaurant lost a little bit of its essence in my opinion.

This restaurant is a great find! The setting is beautiful, as it looks like someone’s garden, surrounded by trees and plants, and it’s stunning! It’s secluded and from outside you would think it’s someone’s house. The food is varied and super tasty! Their service is fabulous, attentive amd efficient staff! This place is a real gem!

We really enjoyed celebrating our wedding anniversary here. The food was excellent, the service was very good and the ambiance is upscale and first class. They have a very large wine list with great wines you don’t see other places

Jantar de ferias com outro casal amigo. Passamos as entradas para irmos degustar o principal! Combinacao entre o arroz de lingueirao com maminha/picanha! Do melhor que há! Talvez o restaurante com melhor relacao qualidade/preco do algarve
