About the restaurant RetroGusto

We are from Canada and booked this restaurant on line 3 weeks prior. While traveling for the past 2 weeks this was the best dinner we have had! Service was great and the food was the best. So glad we found this restaurant

We had a four course meal with wine pairings. The food is authentic Italian, very fresh and with subtle flavors. The burratta and carpaccio were elegantly presented and the pasta dishes were perfectly al dente. Our main course was a flaky fish with delicious sauce, and we loved the flavors and presentation for the tiramisu and mille feuille deserts. The restaurant is operated by co-owners who are both from Italy, including the chef, and they bring obvious passion and hospitality to this restaurant. We have travelled extensively in Italy and had friendly interesting conversation during the course of our meal with our host-sommelier, Gianluigi. The wine pairings were from small Italian producers which made dinner a fun adventure. We also enjoyed the whimsical decoration — only in an avant garde city like Copenhagen would you find authentic Italian food in an eclectic homage to the 70’s!

We read all the comments before booking RetroGusto.
We anticipated really good food, especially considering the price (over 350dkk p.p. for a 3 courses meal) and awesome service.

Service was good but very long (45min in between each plate).

We had the mix entree, the risotto and the fish of the day. Both of us were disappointed by our mains but the risotto was especially unsatisfactory.

We ended up having desert at home...

Duper food, good service, good wine. We’ll come back. Very laid back good Italian without the touristy pizza/pasta hegemony. Just perfect!

Average to say the least. The starter, Quail pate was nice but main course "special" of slow cooked veal was anything but tender and the mash potatoes were grainy.

We were the only people in the restaurant but that was probably because it was so late. I would like to have seen the place with a bit more of a buzz. Having said that the waiter we had (André) was amazing. He spent so much time helping us chose food and drinks and everything he recommended was perfect.

The main courses were very tasty, however the menu was not very Italian. We had expectations of ordering pasta, but only lasagne and 1 gnocci dish were on the menu.
The anti pasto first course was not to our liking, the ceviche cooked salmon was overcooked in this method making it slightly hard and chewy.
The main course was great, but we also requested 1 glass of wine to be paired with the seasonal deer main course, but were not told until the end that we had somehow ordered a whole bottle.
The bill was roughly 1000 krona, which was considerably more expensive than our favourite restaurant we dined at in Copenhagen. Even without the 250 krona bottle of wine which we didn't want, it would still have been a more expensive meal.
The experience wasn't bad, but it's not really what you would expect from an Italian restaurant, and the price is much too high for what you get.
