About the restaurant Saltxipi

The service was arrogant and disdainful. We were made to feel that we were doing a favour to the restaurant by being there. The food was of average quality and the presentation was plain and very uninspiring.

We came because of the reputation for their crab dishes. Sadly, there were few small pieces of cracked shells in it. Rest of food pretty good. A pleasant place, but a long walking distance from the Old Town area.

Arrived at restaurants 10 mins early told abruptly the restaurant is not opened until 8.30. Had to wait outside in the rain. We were not asked to remain inside our shown to seats at the small bar or offered a drink.

Once again entering the restaurant , waited for the host who eventually came and showed us to our table and left without a word.

Once ordering was completed our first course come quickly as did our drinks and wine. However, we where still drinking our pre dinner drink for example the waiter wanted to pour our wine before we finished our gin and tonic.

The mixed tuna salad was nice the prawns were OK only and not value for money.

The waiter wanted to service the main course emmideatly we asked could they serve the main in about 10 - 15 minutes.

The main course tungot fish with potato was very good.

Service was all over the place we did not have one person serving us but a number of different staff. Only once was our wine poured for us ,no one asked if we enjoyed our food.

Lovely atmosphere
Entre ordered was a mixed salad and it was large but unimaginative.
One steak ordered very rare but came well done and one steak was ordered medium but was rare . Both were different steaks so could not have been mixed up.other order of lobster was fantastic.
French fries were floppy , not crisp and not cooked thru.
Some aspects of the restaurant were lovely but others were disappointing.
Staff were great especially advice on wine.

We had a fabulous time. It is offseason so it is hard to capture the mood of what it would be like full season. The owner is outstanding. He touched every person during dinner to make sure that they were enjoying their meal and having a great time. Everyone was having a food experience that fit their needs. The table behind us was 3 generations (just like the owner 3rd generation restauranteur) a grandmother , her son, and two well behaved grandchildren.

Don't know what all the fuss is about? Mediocre at best, considering all the excellent places to eat in San Sebastián why eat here? I was using the fork ratings as a guide, clearly not the best way to choose a restaurant to eat at! Give it a miss if you want a romantic meal, very bright lights, no ambiance at all, food presentation bland. The staff, very pleasant and helpful.

Disappointing. Food was only ordinary. The restaurant was cosy with an open fire but the mood was spoilt by a clash of pop music and football on the television.

Great food, great atmosphere, a little expensive. We arrived early and they gave us wine and olives while waiting for their real opening time, after 9.00 pm.
