Santa Maria Funchal

From the outside the restaurant looks empty, until you walk to the back where there is a beautiful terrace. I feel this might put some people off, which would be a shame! The staff were very friendly and helpful, and suggested some great local gins! My boyfriend had the grilled steak, which was cooked to perfection. I had the sushi, which was fresh, delicious but also different to what I usually have (this used fresh fruit in the dish which made it quite sweet). We had the dessert where you could have three from the menu. The chocolate mousse is a must have!

We were there in a group of 10 people and the food, the service and the ambience at the back garden were incredibly good! Best restaurant we have been in Madeira so far. Really recommendable.

Excellent food and wine in a wonderful enclosed garden with great service from a lovely, friendly team. I would highly recommend Santa Maria in Funchal.

Good Realisation of Social distancing. Friendly staff. Reduced menu, we missed our always preferred desert, the Santa Maria merengue. The atmosphere in the garden is still amazing.

Food was very good. Staff was friendly. The garden was beautiful and peaceful. And price-quality is good as well! Nothing bad to say about this restaurant.

We felt very welcome here. There was a good range of dishes with many Portuguese specialities. The dish my husband chose was too salty for him and immediately it was changed for another dish. All the staff were really helpful and I would recommend the place and the food.

Everything was OK, I only can recommend, especially bife na pedra and salmon, but also frango. It's my third visit in one week and I'll come back again!

Always a good meal at this restaurant. We chose, on this occasion, to go on Wednesday for the all you can eat sushi plus delicious soup. The staff here are always very efficient and pleasant and everything is always delivered in the right time frame. It’s obvious to see that this is a very well run and organised restaurant
