There is no question that the restaurant really tries. The waitresses are very attentive and really nice, and the kitchen tries its best. Michelin stars no, this is not at that level, but they do try hard to be creative and different, and the presentation of the dishes is nice. To get to the next level it needs a bit more refinement, possibly a bit more experience with combinations of ingredients to get the most out of them (an example is the "carbonara" amuse bouche which really doesn't work, but the idea was "amusing"). Occasionally too salty (particularly the gnocchi dish). I did enjoy the meal and particularly the very welcoming service.

Great food, great decor, great value for money. We were served by a very serious waitress which was a shame and this in turn made the atmosphere a bit cold. That being said, I would definitely go back.

The food is actually impressive and it indulges your senses. The entire experience is worth to try because every course is a surprise and it's cooked at the moment. I couldn't drink that night but I am sure the food with wine pairing should be even better. The only thing that annoyed me a bit, maybe because I was alone and a bit tired was that the timing was way too long. Some people who came after me and had the same number of courses left before. No doubt for a couple that wouldn't be a problem because this is an experience to enjoy slowly as it is really unique and unexpected in good way. Overall the experience was amazing.

Superb restaurant very close to the center of Amsterdam. Service was very welcoming and warm - we were quickly seated and given delicious amuse-bouches. The noise level is such that you can carry on a quiet conversation (none of this too-loud music that seems to plague restaurants these days), but there's a bustle and liveliness to the place that's appealing. The menu is a "surprise menu," essentially a tasting menu at the discretion of the chef, though you'll be asked how many courses you'd like and what food dislikes you might have. We went for four courses, which was plenty of food. All the dishes were very tasty, distinctive and exquisitely beautiful, little works of art. Particularly magnificent was a venison loin, perfectly cooked and extremely tender, a revelation. The chef is very talented, so you'll be in good hands for the evening. This is Michelin star level cooking, so it's not a budget restaurant, but you can be assured of a terrific meal and a memorable experience. Best food we had in AMS.

Ate here solo on Monday night. Phenomenal meal and wine pairing, as well as service and sommelier. I won't go into detail on the dishes because it's a surprise menu, but all were delicious and they cut across a broad spectrum. My only critique would be that I might have liked more reds in the wine mixture. However, all of the wines went well with the dishes and the dessert wine was a real surprise. The breads and butters are amazing, the first course that was a fish course was out of this world. As were the poultry and "puzzle" courses. Everything was great but those, and the amuses were the absolute highlights. Thank you SENSES for an amazing meal.

All dish quality is delicious and very nice , but small portions...If you strong men with nice a good appetite it is only for some degustations...No menu.. There is no choice of dishes on the menu and it is not clear what could be such a surprise and expensive .. This is a restaurant for those who like expensive chic glamor to haute cuisine and at the same time just as well stay hungry ...

I have very mixed feelings about my visit to Senses this weekend, the food was out of this world, however I found the service terrible. It was over 10 minutes from when we were seated to being asked if we would like a drink. We had the 6 Course Tasting Menu, however as we are not huge wine drinkers we decided not to have the wine pairing. Well it certainly seems that if you don't have the wine pairing then they don't have much interest in providing you with a drink at all - at one point I had to ask 3 different members of staff for a new glass of wine before I finally received it.

The food is sensational, there's no getting away from that, but at times we had to wait over 35 minutes between each course. On a 6 course menu this adds up to a long time! This might be okay if you're with a large group of friends, but I was a table of 2 and expected better. The staff are very knowledgable when you do get their attention and suited the ambience of the restaurant well, but unfortunately they weren't very attentive in their service.

When it came to getting the bill it took me at least 5 minutes to get the attention of the waiter who had spent 20 minutes talking to the table two down from us (a table of 6, I think he was hoping for a big tip from them and therefore our little table didn't matter). Bearing in mind there were only two tables left at this point, from asking it took a further 15 minutes before anyone approached us about paying - I was getting very frustrated by this stage.

After the first couple of courses I was raving to my fiancee about the people I was going to bring to the restaurant (I travel to Amsterdam with business once a month, often with different clients), however by the end of the meal I am not sure I would bother to return
