7/10Food was beautifully presented but taste of pastries were a bit of a let down. Fruit platter was to share and was very fresh. I had the sokyonomiyaki and it lacked enough sauce.

9/10This restaurant has been on my list to try for awhile. The toro was exceptional and the wagyu beef was a close second. The other items we had were also amazing (including the Japanese scallop, miso kingfish, tai nori, whitning tempura, kingfish furikake and spicy edamame. They were out of the smaller sakes so we got a carafe and it was delightful and fresh (heiwa tsuruume yiuzushu). Pretty pricey sushi wise so not for the faint hearted. Noise wise the music was quite loud at times and didn't quite go with the Japanese vibe. Service wise they were run off their feet but food was super quick. The sake actually took the longest at like 25-30 minutes and we already had a couple dishes on the table by then. Overall, would go again but price point its more for a special night then regular occurrence. Note - they also charge 15% surcharge for stat holidays.

3.5/10The service would've been fine otherwise, with average food. We arrived 10:10, kitchen was closing by 10:30 and by 10:55 we were shooed away to make space for the lunch session. It was clear that we were not welcome. Would not recommend - the 10am session is pure greed on Sokyo's part to extract money from as many diners in the shortest time possible.

2/10We have been to Sokyo over 20 times. Enjoyed all. Tonight has made us stay away for a while. Seating terrible. Tables to close. Sitting listening to both sides talk. Service limited. Sushi fish too thick. Not enjoyable. Needed to leave. Went yo another restaurant. Love to speak with management.

8/10We had a degustation dinner and the food came too quickly, even before we finish a dish the next one is already on the table.

9.5/10Atmosphere is nice, although can be quite noisy. The food is fresh and delicious and the service is outstanding. I would definitely recommend and will be returning again.

5.5/10The dining experience was alright. Service was generally good. Food presentation was somewhat mediocre — some sashimis were stuck together, showing some pieces not thoroughly sliced… other dishes were fine.

7.5/10Food quality was excellent, well explained menu and beautifully presented in a slightly noisy atmosphere of happy diners. Service was attentive and well informed.

10/10The staff was amazing and the food even better. Sushi tasted wonderful and whole atmosphere was magical. We’ve been there first time, but definitely not last time! I can highly only recommend this restaurant and 100% will come back.

9/10It was a lovely night had by all. We went out for the girls night out. Foods are pricey compare to other Japanese restaurants however the atmosphere was pleasant and comfortable. Sunbeam who served us for the night was polite and helpful. Smiles on her face every time we requested or asked something. Recommend for the special day once in a while.

8/10Quite loud on Friday night since the place is small and many large groups. Was hard to get waiters attention and they forgot one of our orders. The food was really good though so shame service and atmosphere took points off the rating.

9/10Food was delicious. Waiter advised toothfish & it was excellent! Very slow to bring our drinks so we were given 2glasses of wine complimentary. A bit expensive, but exquisite presentation. Would love to go back when not rushing to go to a show.

9/10We were very well looked after by the friendly staff. Toro sushi, miso tooth fish and pork belly and of course the sashimi platter were delicious.. Sadly, they have run out of the sake that we intended to have but to order the alternative.. Otherwise we had a great time celebrating my son’s birthday.

In the Land of the Rising Sun When it comes to unique Japanese in Sydney, Sokyo has bragging rights. Firstly, their super-star chef Chase Kojima is a California-raised Japanese prodigy cook, who spent the better part of his young life in a kitchen. He's cooked all over the world and settled in Sydney where he's developed years worth of special knowledge of the local fish supply. His menu is an ultra-modern fusion of Japanese, pan-Asian and contemporary western cuisine. Sokyo also get to rub in the fact that they're the only place in Sydney that does Japanese-inspired breakfast. For a truly unique experience, come and enjoy their miso-flavoured eggs Benedict, or their great big "sumo breakfast" featuring a marriage of sausage, edamame and roast potatoes. Mouth watering yet? They also do a la carte sushi and sashimi for lunch and dinner, a bounty of vegetarian choices, and a pre-show menu that surveys all their greats. So take a seat in their moody chic dining room and enjoy the sounds of resident DJ while you let Sokyo treat you. Best Dish: dengakuMan
