I am never happy to give a bad review but I was really disappointed with this restaurant especially after all the great reviews, I just don't get it. The food was really mediocre, ok but only ok, certainly not worth the money. With a little bit more effort the shrimp starter would have been much better, a nicer dressing, more variety in the salad! Was told that the chicken was "confit" well forget it, it was just stewed chicken. The risotto was overcooked and watery. I didn't dare have a desert. The waiter was very nice, the ambiance was good but that is just not enough, in the end we go out to eat well. Sorry guys, you have to make a bigger effort.
This restaurant was recommended to us by the VVV for a wedding anniversary dinner. We certainly weren't disappointed. Unfortunately, there was no printed menu simply the choice of dishes being announced which makes it somewhat difficult to estimate the cost. We were served by the owner who was most attentive and even adressed my wife in French. The decor is rather higgledy-piggledy with bottles being stored everywhere. The cooking was excellent and fell into the category of "nouvelle cuisine". The curried scallops were unusual and the Black Angus fillet steak was superb. It appears from the stickers that the restaurant has been featured in the Michelin Guide over a number of years. We wouldn't hesitate to return there if we were to visit Alkmaar again.
For me the perfect restaurant. Really tastefull food, made and served with a lot of love, In a living room atmosphere.
