The staff was super friendly! They had good recommendations for us. Food is delicious as well and we felt really at home. Also the we just waited a really short time for the food to be served.

Fresh fish of the day was the absolute highlight. Service was warm and prompt. Place was really busy with customers, an unusual sight for this year; outdoor tables were far apart for this to be a concern. However many pedestrians passed through this very narrow street, some did not wear masks and were talking, laughing and singing; this is something to think about if you take social distance seriously.

Second time dining here and we're definitely coming back. Friendly and professional staff, great food - we had grilled scabbard fish with banana, espetada, tomato egg soup and prawn bisque, chocolate mousse, all fantastic. Highly recommended!

Lovely restaurant in the old town. Service was very good, prompt, even though it was quite busy. We had shrimp bisque starter followed by chateaubriand and it was delicious. 30% discount deal off the food made it excellent value for money. Recommended and will visit again.

From the moment we walked in we were greeted with such care and kindness! The limpets as starters were divine alongside fresh oysters, We were shown the selection of fresh fish and decided to choose the sea bream for mains which was cooked to perfection! The recommendations from the waiters were spot on! We even topped off our evening with dessert and a small sweet aperitif which ended a wonderful evening. The staff were helpful with food recommendations and offered a friendly and attentive service. Definitely would recommend this place for a lovely evening and great service.

Strolling through the streets trying to pick one of the many restaurants, we looked up previous reviews and went for the Taberna Ruel - and it literally made our day! The food was delicious but the service was just outstanding! Very professional, super attentive and with good humor. We had the octopus and espetada and both were cooked to perfection. We also had the pleasure of trying their chestnut soup after complaining about one we had elsewhere and it was to die for ;-) the atmosphere is amazing outside but even the interior is very classy - perfect for that special dinner or lunch. Don’t miss this place when in Funchal!

Terrific taste of classic Madeiran food in this fantastic local restaurant in heart of Funchal old town. We booked table via The Fork and had a great table reserved for us outside so we could really soak up the atmosphere on a warm October evening. It wasn’t a surprise to see this place so busy. The service we received was excellent (and very family friendly) and the kids loved the food. We particularly enjoyed the beef espetada, the grilled octopus and the local scabbard fish with banana. Great wine selection too. We thoroughly recommend and hope to go back before end of our holiday.

Good food in a nice setting! The fresh bread and tuna were delicious!

But disappointed that all food didn’t arrive on time. Steak arrived and had to wait for the fries which arrived 5 minutes later. Hamburgers arrived with no bun or bread. Fish dishes were delicious. Service very friendly and accommodating.

Definately One of the best restaurants in Madeira.

Gorgeous meal. Amazing fresh seafood and lovely, attentive staff. Have booked again for a couple of days time.
