10/10We chose the setting as it was convenient for us to travel to and gather the family together. We were 4 generations and the staff were very welcoming and took great care of our differing needs. The food was lovely, especially the fish cakes as a main course. I'd recommend the pub. If their car park is full, it's well worth trying the public parking by Waitrose.

9/10Always an excellent place, one of few, where to entertain a conversation without having to raise your voice or talking over other guests. Food quality is good, cocktails are well made (and quite pricey), but again the atmosphere and lovely staff is what this place is for. Recommended

4.5/10The restaurant had a nice feel, the baked Camembert was still solid in the middle and just warm, the chutney on the side tasted like branston pickle which was too strong for the cheese and not what was on the menu, the Olivie bread was nice but again looked like it had been toasted but not recently as it was cold. I had the duck salad and was so disappointed it was a tiny bowl of ‘salad’ which was rocket and watercress with ribbons of carrot and something else white. The duck was so chewy and over done I don’t know how they cooked it but some bits looked grey and old then fried up or heated. The chillis dressing tasted shop bought and just very disappointing. My Husbands fish and chips were very nice though which was the only positive.

10/10Stayed here for a over night stay and was not disappointed. Lovely staff and excellent accommodation. The only thing we were a bit disappointed with is that the bar shut at 10.15 pm on a Saturday night!! But apart from that a very enjoyable stay and will return.

10/10A group of us met up at the Black Boy on Friday lunchtime and we were all very impressed with the quality of the food and drinks and certainly good value for money. So much so that it is now our Go To place for lunch at an affordable price. Good choice on the menu and best chips Ive tasted in a long time. If you are looking for a nice pub to visit for lunch then its got to be the Black Boy. My daughter visited in the evening recently and said it was equally as good then. Happy Days!

8/10Had a lovely bottle of Berry Brothers & Rudd Crémant de Limoux on a Friday night offer of £22.95 and a carafe of cold tap water. Ordered Olives with rustic warm bread and olive oil/balsamic, olives were green, large and tasty. One Beef & Ale pie and two Rump of Lamb ordered, no extra sides necessary. Pie was very tasty, quite large and the pastry was good with good chunks of meat inside, gravy served on the side in a mini copper pan. Lamb was plentiful, cut up into thick slices, not too pink and not over cooked, just right. We shared a delicious Lemon Posset for pudding. Also stayed the night and breakfast the following morning was excellent. Will return as it was all very good value in a lovely spot.

9/10Food beautifully cooked and presented. Lovely ambience but alittle noisy due to the hard floors. Recommend the Brie starter, the Hunters chicken and the Brownie
