About the restaurant The French Connection

French spheres

The French Connection is his name more than worthy. This restaurant has all the ingredients for a French experience. The interior is reminiscent of a wine cellar with great atmosphere and lots of excellent taste experiences in stock. Chefs Jef van den Hout serve specialties from various French regions. Of course French wines aren’t lacking, but non-alcoholic cocktails are also available. Encore!

I did the 5 course tasting menue. Some courses were excellent, others were fine / ok. It took a vary long time, longer than the chef comitted to, as i was hesitant to order. The restaurant was understaffed. Although the service was great, the floor was serviced only by 2 people. I couldn’t wain any longer, so skipped the desert and opted for chease platter (highly recommend). The staff apologized for the delay, then charged me the full price of the tasting menue plus cheese platter.

Really, really expensive food. They call it french inspired. We call it “nothing on the plate”. Food looks and tastes good but all the courses will only work if you took at.least 5 of them. Otherwise you will stay hungry. The menu is very small and food is “experimental”. The wine is ok. And as stated by others, you’ll have to bring time with. Waiting for the meal took 30min. Restaurant was nearly fully booked and so we got an ugly table near the toilet on a backside of a wall, separated from the rest - hard to be seen by the waiters and a cool blow makes us shiver. Defenetly not the right place for us. The price classification €€-€€€ is wrong, even for Amsterdam.

My husband and I went the French Connection for our last dinner and Europe, which was the perfect end to our trip. The food was an absolute delight. Each bite was so unique and with so much flavor. Our waitress was also wonderful and helped us select the perfect wine based on our preference without trying to up sell us. I would absolutely return to French Connection and recommend to friends. Keep in mind, this is a truly European dining experience, do not expect to get in and out within an hour.

Slow food concept.. meaning taking more than 3 hours from start to finish of the tasting menu.. way too slow. Food was great though.

Delicious food, but the portions are too small. I understand that this is a haute cuisine restaurant, and I get that all the dishes are entrée size and you need to order four or five. We went for the five course menu, and were served five delicious and well executed dishes, but they were just too small. Our bill for two (including a well priced wine) was €138. For that much money I should feel full, but I did not. If the portions were bigger I would heartily recommend this restaurant, but because of the tiny portions I will not go back.

This is the second time we visit French Connection and for sure we will come back again. We (5 people) had the Dining City Deal (5 course for 56 EUR all in). The food was delicious with beautiful presence. The services were perfect, our waiters were very friendly and attentive. What a lovely evening again in French Connection. Thank you.

I had very high hopes before going to French Connection so that I already recommended to several people even before eating there. Something I almost never do. Their motto, French tapas sounded really exciting but apparently the right slogan should have been French tasting menu instead of tapas. I do not remember anyone saying, "Man, I steel feel hungry, let's go grab a burger or something" after a Spanish tapas experience. But that was exactly how we felt after we are finished with the small tapas menu. When we ordered, the waiter said that it was an excellent choice, but could have nicely warned that there is a chance that we would not feel full. The decor is really nice, the service is friendly as expected. The amusement was interesting, like an olive ice bomb which really increased our expectations on what is coming next. But then, every course was literally a bite, (only the calfs cheek was the exception) and not very special I have to admit. One of us were vegetarians and what she got was like a bad imitation of what we ate. I still give them credit to try to create the vegetarian options of the original recipes, but still. After dinner we stopped by a burger place so my friends can have some cheeseburger. I do not think I will come here again or recommend it to other people.

Last Saturday I had an awesome dinner at The French Connection with two friends.
The restaurant is located at De Singel, near Koningsplein and the Flowermarket.
The restaurant is beautiful, cosy and the food is AMAZING. I liked it so much because you can just order a good bottle of wine and can eat during the whole evening just small amounts of great bites. For example a beautiful burgundy bottle Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru-Morgeot with bites like charcutery, flammkuchen, oysters, caviar, bavette and cheeses. I definitely come back!
