The food here was truly awful. A number of people complained about the quality of the food while we were there, us included. We opted for the roast dinner options, the potatoes were something else. Hard and chewy, not even sure how they managed that, the beef and the chicken were both chewy and tough. Won't be returning.

We went for afternoon tea. At £30 per head you would expect a certain level of quality. Crockery would have shamed a roadside cafe. Sandwiches were basic on standard bread. No relishes. Cake selection limited to chocolate squares. Scones were not baked properly and inedible. We sopped eating halfway through. We had to go go to main hotel reception to report the problem as there was no staff in the restaurant and bar. The young person who served us at the start was obviously inexperienced and needed training. I asked for the drinks menu intending to buy champagne to celebrate my partners birthday. He called from the door of the restaurant “ you know alcohol drinks are not included in the price. “ He then had to go and find someone from another part of the hotel to sort the drinks. We had just started eating when he came up and asked do you want to pay now. Obviously we were not expected to want anything else. I asked why the hurry and he said “my shift is ending” this explains why we couldn’t find anyone to report the problems with the food. Eventually, we spoke with someone and agreed that we would only pay for our drinks. I tipped the staff because it was obvious they were short staffed and struggling. As it happens we were the only people in the restaurant maybe that tells its own story. The fact that we were not charged for the food did not make up for a ruined birthday celebration. Not what you would expect from a “ 4 star hotel”

CraxtonWood has been a favourite venue for us over many years.We were regulars in the days of Mr Petranka when we celebrated wedding anniversaries, my 60th and my mothers funeral lunch. Before lockdown I entertained some friends to afternoon tea.It seemed an obvious choice when we as a family decided to dine out on New Year’s Day.Unfortunately we were slightly disappointed. Our table preference had been fulfilled but the lighting was so poor we had to use a mobile phone light to read the menu. Apparently no batteries were available to restore the Christmas lights which would have solved the problem.

Nice restraunt, lovely staff, tasty risotto. I only had the vegan option which was really nice but my friend had the carbonarra and also said that was tasty. We had afternoon tea earlier so only had the mains.

Food not good very hot plates but food luke warm. Ordered a rib eye steak but no way was that a rib eye. Sat in window dead flies on window sill. Will not eat here again during our stay
