We ordered 2, 8oz rump steaks, this was 1830pm in the evening and they had run out of Rump steaks. They only had one rump steak left, so early in the evening, my wife had the Rump steak, so they offered me a 10oz rid eye steak. Which was far more expensive, they did not offer the steak at the same price as the rump I had ordered. When the steak arrived, it was not rid eye it was a very thick steak which the waiter kept saying was rib eye. I have in my life, had some very good rib eye, I do not like food being miss represented, I was hungry so I ate the steak. this was our wedding anniversary, everything else was good. So I feel aggrieved could have gone better.

Today was our first visit and we were very disappointed with the meals we ordered. The meals were served lukewarm; my wife sent hers back to be re-heated. The food was served in a heap and we needed steak knives to cut it. We had been recommended to the restaurant by friends but it fell well short of our expectations.

Easy to access location. Service was good enough, pleasant and unobtrusive but did not try to engage us particularly. The food was very tasty and cooked well - so thank you. We will be back!

Very disappointed in lack of Christmas cheer. Food was below standard and not very appetising. Garnish sad & limp Chips good & hot Main course over cooked. Initially staff attentive, but sadly got too busy though restaurant wasn't 50% full.. The standard of the ladies toilets is appaling..

My wife and I were due to meet up with friends for lunch several miles away from home but they had to cancel. We had not dined at The Hillside for some considerable time but were able to get a lunchtime booking. We had dined here on many occasions in the past but had forgotten how much we had enjoyed it before. We were fortunate that we chose a time when it was quite quiet so the ambience was good and we were well looked after. The food was good too so we left well satisfied and will not leave it for so long to return.

Went there for a family birthday, we had a really good table and enjoyed the evening very much. Service was a little slow but it was busy so we weren’t too worried and the server was very pleasant and helpful. The food was excellent, I had the pork belly which was delicious and everyone said they enjoyed theirs too. Well done for making it a memorable experience!

The menu choices and food have improved a great deal from that of 3 or 4 years ago. Staff are good but not enough of them. The Hillside was full. Long wait for bar service.

We enjoyed a really nice evening at Hillside. We were served by Sue was was amazing, so attentive to our needs and requests. Camembert sharer for starter, as always we were getting short on bread to dip but managed to eek it out. Gorgeous Apricot & Ginger chutney served with it. I had the Fish & Chips which was very good, my wife had the Chicken & Pancetta Pie which again was a good size portion. We have been here before and we will return in the future.
