My wife and I were due to meet up with friends for lunch several miles away from home but they had to cancel. We had not dined at The Hillside for some considerable time but were able to get a lunchtime booking. We had dined here on many occasions in the past but had forgotten how much we had enjoyed it before. We were fortunate that we chose a time when it was quite quiet so the ambience was good and we were well looked after. The food was good too so we left well satisfied and will not leave it for so long to return.

Went there for a family birthday, we had a really good table and enjoyed the evening very much. Service was a little slow but it was busy so we weren’t too worried and the server was very pleasant and helpful. The food was excellent, I had the pork belly which was delicious and everyone said they enjoyed theirs too. Well done for making it a memorable experience!

The menu choices and food have improved a great deal from that of 3 or 4 years ago. Staff are good but not enough of them. The Hillside was full. Long wait for bar service.

We enjoyed a really nice evening at Hillside. We were served by Sue was was amazing, so attentive to our needs and requests. Camembert sharer for starter, as always we were getting short on bread to dip but managed to eek it out. Gorgeous Apricot & Ginger chutney served with it. I had the Fish & Chips which was very good, my wife had the Chicken & Pancetta Pie which again was a good size portion. We have been here before and we will return in the future.

The restaurant was under staffed when we visited. One of our meals was very cold with the rest being only luke warm. The food tasted good and the staff were apologetic for the cold dinner and brought out some hot gravy to try and warm it up. One dinner was inedible as it contained very fatty beef, but again the staff were apologetic and refunded the meal. The restaurant itself was very cold with many diners sitting in their coats. The staff did their best to warm it up by relighting the fire when asked. Sadly the service was very slow, due to their only being two people running the whole bar/restaurant. Shame

From entering to leaving the staff were pleasant and efficient, the food arrived in a timely manner and was hot and on a hot plate ( roast potatoes were proper roasties not frozen and deep fried .... excellent) . The area we were seated in was clean and welcoming . Prices are comparable to other and it was good value for what we were served, We will be returning very soon

It not a good start when the waitress can't guarantee that the vegan option has not got milk in it and needs to check with thr chef. Staff need more training.

Very disappointed when arriving as our table had been given to someone else despite our having a reservation then next let down was that there was only a very small menu selection available as their delivery lorry was late so at least half of usual items unavailable. Very nice chef managed to find a couple of steaks for two of our party other chose from reduced menu. Felt sorry for the staff as they were so apologetic but this not our first visit so this was a real let down this time.

A perfect place to have a long overdue catch up. Such convenient location for our group to meet up. Great car parking and pushchair ramps. Amazing comfortable seating and pretty views. Excellent waiter service who was very attentive - plenty of great food choices at affordable prices. Beautiful real fires giving it a country ambiance. I will be highly recommending this venue to my friends and family.

Food was served lukewarm and cold Plates were cold side dishes were not hot Extra gravy was warm change our food but run out of vegetables.we got apology And they took the cost of the side dish off the bill. Very generous for ruining our Sunday lunch will not be back
