9.5/10Food was very nice! Particularly the hoppers and the roti and the dhal fritters. Only slight thing was there was no logo or branding of The Lankan on the outside of the restaurant or in, it was just a bar. The vibe was nice as street food but felt a little weird sitting next to others coming in for a drink. Maybe the back should be for eating customers? Not sure, will definitely come again!

Thank you for your feedback! We're glad you enjoyed the food. Yes, we operate from a bar setting. Weekdays typically offer a more serene ambiance. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!🙏🏽

6.5/10It's a bar... A nice bar.... the bar girl was more interested in chatting with friends, than serving. The chips were ok , just say fusion food, not Sri Lankan . As it tasted nothing like that, and the hopper was a egg pancake with frozen cheese.... ???? Wrong... On all levels.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, but it seems there's been some confusion. The Lankan operates as a fusion restaurant within the Brick, clearly stating our Sri Lankan-inspired dishes with a Western twist, or Sri Lankan fusion across all platforms, including where you booked, also on the menu. We never stated anywhere that we do traditional Sri Lankan cuisine. As for the hopper, our process involves fermenting rice flour with coconut milk, and a pancake is a different process and a different dish but we understand they may seem similar. And regarding the frozen cheese… coconut sambol is made from coconut, there’s no cheese involved in any of the hoppers . Appreciate the feedback,

10/10We came here because it had a good rating & I love Sri Lankan food. It was difficult to find we searched for quite a while. But the Lankan is in the Bar called the Brick (who knew?) we had a lovely welcome from the really smiley & attentive bar lady. (Who I accidentally gave more notes for a tip then I intended because they were stuck together but she came over and gave me one back. It’s lovely to see honesty.) The food was amazing if I could give it a 6star I would. Highly recommended,a must go. It’s fairly quiet Tuesday night top tip if your like us & avoid the hustle & bustle. Busier at weekends apparently. Love love love this place might come back to Brighton just for the mutton rolls.

9/10The food is very tasty and lots of variety with drinks. Only downside tonight were no coconut cheesecake available (had before and it is divine) and people kept leaving door open coming in and out on coldest night of year.
