8/10We are very lucky that this restaurant is in our neighbourhood, and is always a treat to visit. This particular day, we were celebrating two birthdays. The food was great, birthday girls had express lunch with calamari and pork ribs. Other had bruschetta and steak. When we came to pay the bill, the advertised price of the express lunch was $52, despite advertised as $42. I questioned this, and was told it had gone up that day, despite being advertised at $42. They honoured the $42 price, but I believe that a $10 jump is too much. After returning home, approx 4 hours after eaten, the birthday girls started to get horrendous stomach cramps and racing to the bathroom. The next day, i rang and informed them of this, and was virtually dismissed, which was disappointing. I expected a return phone call at some time to see how we were, but to no avail.

9/10The restaurant had our Fork booking which was a plus. We had boerwars, beef half rack and rump steak. That was just right for two of us. The steak was one of the best I have had of late, nogristle, soft and succulent. My only regret was that I could not taste a SAfrican wine by the glass.

6/10We visited the meat and wine co on a Tuesday night I took my 88 year old Mom along because she really likes the pork ribs there. I sent a message with my fork booking requesting we be placed at the front of the restaurant because my Mom feels the cold very easily. On arrival the reception immediately wanted to send us to the back of the restaurant which can be draughty and cold. They eventually found us a seat near the stairs. We sat down and placed our order. Unfortunately this location had a fan running above and whenever someone entered the restaurant a blast of cold air came through and hit my Mom on the back. We requested to move and they said they could move us to the back of the restaurant or upstairs. I was hesitant to take her upstairs as she has fragile bones and if she fell she could crack her hip. We asked a waiter if we could be moved closer to the cooking area away from being in the path of the front door. They advised that one table was pre requested by another guest however there were two tables available for two in that area. When I notified the reception they said that no one had told them about the second table being free at the time (it would have been great if they had checked). My Mom at this stage felt very uncomfortable and wanted to go home however as we had already ordered this was a bit difficult. There was a spare table between the bar and the cooking area in the corner of the front of the restaurant and we also enquired about that table and they said it was booked. Eventually we were moved to the back room and they suggested a seat under the heater along the corridor where people pass by. This would be fine except my Mom noted the draught coming through that area so whilst it would be warm for a moment each time someone passed by from the front room to the back room the cold air would follow. We eventually settled on the area near the corner of the windows towards the back of the restaurant. This area however still had draught flowing through. Once the meals were served my Mom noted that due to the area they became cold quickly compared to the front room where we normally sit. We had to call the waiter a few times to have water refilled and no one asked how the meal was which they normally do. On this occasion the ribs my Mom had were a bit dry and not much sauce. However as she was very uncomfortable at this stage she just hurried to finish the ribs so we could go home. When we checked out of the restaurant I let the manager? (Wearing a blue shirt) know that we were advised that the table near the bar and the cooking area that we had enquired about was empty the whole time and we could have sat there and it would have made my Mom much more comfortable and able to enjoy the meal. His response however was that the table was for four people. I let him know that it could have been made for two. How difficult is it to remove two sets of cutlery and let an 88 year old lady sit in comfort?? Especially as I had gone to the trouble to put a note in the booking? On other occasions the staff have been very accommodating and pleasant and checked that we were okay and enjoying the meal. This visit was a total breakdown in service and caring for customers. There were also a few other tables at the front of the restaurant which seated more which were not occupied and we could have sat there - granted they are for much ore than two people, but all that was needed was to move the cutlery and let an senior lady and her son enjoy a meal together with just a touch of compassion and care.

8.5/10Took a while to be served. On top of that, they had a heater turned on full blast. Asked for it to be turned off, which they then happily obliged only for it to be turned back on moments later. Here's a tip... maybe just maintain ROOM TEMPERATURE for your guests. Food was good.

7.5/10We always enjoy coming to Meat & Wine in Hawthorn East. However, this time, upon booking, I had to give credit card details ($50 pp) just for the booking. And to my surprise, the confirmation said my booking was only from 5:45pm to 6:45pm. (This was however not enforced on the evening). A bit taken aback by the new rules.

8.5/10When my friend and I arrived we were shown to our allocated table. However, minutes later, the outside door opened when new diners entered. Being a cold evening, there was an icy blast. I requested to move to warmer table. This was accomodated with no problem. Thanks Hawthorng East for looking after us 'oldies'!

8/10We had the dry aged New Yorker, asked for medium rare but came out medium. Also ordered the lamb skewer which was meant to be medium but came out more well done as the meat was tough. Meal took 20mins to come out. For the price point I’d rather not go back. Service was lovely though.

8.5/10Food was good, steaks were perfectly cooked. But, we didn’t feel welcome with The fork booking w$50 discount as we walked in. The bill came without the discount, we had to pay at the front desk and the manager gave us a black look. Very disappointing service.

10/10Having consumed Meat & Wine Co’s slow cooked full rack beef ribs in my recent visit, I had to try their signature dry aged steaks. After consulting the waiter on various cuts, breeds, grain/grass diet & ageing process, traditional Monte rib eye grass-fed was chosen. The verdict? This is probably one of the best steaks I have eaten at home and abroad. The piece weighs 460g with a small handle of bone attached. The first appearance on being served on the table was a georgous aroma of caramalisation around the edges with the unmistakable sear marks, which is just enough to impart an ever slight texture compare to the rest of the steak. My waiter recommended it to be cooked medium and sliced by the chef. The skills of the chef clearly showed as the steak was cooked perfectly, bouncy & juicy on the inside and the flavour was intensified from the expert ageing process. The chips was served on the side and it was a perfect way to soak up some of the veal jus oozing on to the serving board. It will be safe to say that this won’t be my last vist.
