Payed a lot for little. Food wasn't amazing, service slow and atmosphere not inviting. In the beginning we were also wondering if we went the right place.

was craving of Indian food and reached Rotterdam after searched on google The Pepper Trail thought came in mind same usual indian food as I am having from last 6 years but when I stepped into pepper trail I was surprised first with the decor and than host the way she welcomed me,after seeing the decor I thought I wrongly stepped in???as restaurant is big and looked expensive but after seeing the menu and dishes discriptions my own thought made me wrong that
I Stepped into a right Indian restaurant and than my expectations were high.
I ordered fish tikka followed by lamb biryani and both were finger licking good i don't know I didn't ordered a naan but fish came along with naan flavoured carrom seeds naan was perfectly cooked and chefs recommendation of wine with food enhanced my food flavours...overall a wonderfull experience deserve to be a Michelin.

Superb authentic Indian cuisine, very friendly and attentive service and classy mod decor. Also fine wines suggested to compliment different dishes.
Will definitely return - the whole experience is well worth the slightly high price tag.

Lovely modern open design - quite a bit different from so many traditional Indian restaurants. We ordered the chef's menu of four items and were not disappointed. Curly papadoms with three kinds of dips arrived while we waited - followed by a complimentary broccoli from the grill. Started with a tomato shorta delicious fresh tomato taste, then excellent pieces of lamb and chicken from the grill. Main courses: butter chicken was superb - not too sweet - lovely seasoning and creamy. Lamb Rogan Josh - delicious. Basmati rice, various naan, and a salad to round things off. Lastly a delicious Indian dessert of mango kulfi. Helpings were generous - we could probably have had a third at our table and we would all have been nourished by two set meals.
Service was excellent - dishes were explained, and care being taken to advise us of the heat of dishes. We are both used to spicy curries so they brought us some additional 'seasoning' to add spice. I suspect many of my Dutch friends won't!
The bar area is inviting and next time we will allocate more time so we can start there with a pre-dinner drink.
In all a lovely evening and we will be going back to try a different part of the menu.
Restaurant
Thank you so much for your kind words. We aim on providing a unique Indian dining Xperience to all our guests and are glad that you enjoyed our Chef's dishes. We are sure your Dutch friends would also relish our cuisines as our Chef would happily oblige their requests regarding the heat level. We cannot wait to welcome you back to try a different menu of ours :)

After going through the HEERLIJK special menu we were quite excited to go to this restaurant and it did not disappoint. The Chicken Royal and Mango Kulfi was the highlight of our evening. The Chef surely has some magic in his hands. The flavors of the Chicken royal were just out of this world, will be coming back again to try the Lamb platter.

Walked in for a dinner yesterday at this restaurant. Warmly received by the staff. We asked for a specific table and they kindly asked us to wait at the bar area where they got us drinks. The food was sensational specially the Chicken Kalami Masala. The duck biryani also had a very tangy taste which was splendid. Definitely one of my favorite new restaurants. Will be back

Recommended by a colleague of mine and we thank him for it. A little bit hidden on the first floor in the centrum of Rotterdam but a beautifull place. Food was exquisite. We told them that we had to leave in a certain time frame for a theater show and this was no problem. The restaurant was full. The second drink took a little bit longer but in an full restaurant this can happen. When I am back in Holland I will gladly return.

We are regular customers of this amazing restaurant and generally Chef Sanjay always welcomes us and makes our visit a delightful one but today surprisingly he was not in and yet his amazing team served us wonderfully. The Rajasthani Food Festival definitely reminded we spent in Udaipur and Jaipur in Rajasthan. Delicious food and amazing service as always. Keep the great job up. Look forward to our next visit

Generally I don't write reviews for any restaurant. Staff at The Pepper Trail insisted us to write a review about our experience. it was too big compared to other Indian restaurants. Lots of more options then just butter chicken and beef vindaloo. Even had various fish and prawn items. Tried the prawns and they were delicious. Chef definitely has his own special recipe and it seems very different compared to other chefs. Prices are a bit high compared to other Indian restaurants but the quality of the food and the service definitely makes the money worth the experience. Just had to wait a bit in between the meals but otherwise everything was 10/10. Will recommend to everyone.

Went in yesterday seeing a facebook post about Pepper Taj festival. Been here before twice and each time every festival is very different. Chef said that the food was cooked as how Mughlay dishes are cooked. The meat was very soft and the curry it was made in just blended perfectly. Even the fish was cooked with the right touch of spices. Definitely one of the best fish dish I have ever had. Hoping to come back soon for the next food festival

Had a table booked for an evening dinner with my wife and 2 year old daughter. Was greeted by the staff upon entering and directed to our table. Very friendly staff even helped with adjusting the high-chair for my daughter. In-between the course meals, the Chef even took time out to come and greet us and ask if were enjoying our dinner. Overall, a fantastic experience. Will definitely recommend it to everyone and come back again soon

Went to The Pepper Trail for my son’s birthday party as he loves Indian food. I must say after visiting this restaurant his love even increased. The delicious chicken starters were just very tasty. We had never tried sea-food in Indian style and the chef’s fish is perfect. The flavor was very good and had the right amount of spices. Chef even made a special dessert for my son with Little Fireworks on it and he liked it very much. Overall, great food and customer service.

We managed our navigation to the doorstep of The Pepper Trail as advised by google maps for Traditional authenticate Indian Food. And wow, we were never knew seat was almost taken.

This place was so cool! The ambiance was cozy and warm and also was lucky that we got ourselves the windows sofa seat without reservation. Was warmly greeted by front house crew.

Being Frank, I know nuts about Indian cuisine and as usual we place pre-set menu, but this time we asked front house team to build our order with A la carte menu.

As per out taste and diet habits after a little question answer round our menu was created by team. Meanwhile before starters we got Papadum and 3 types of different chutneys and Amuse Bouche.

Starters and Main Course was very Delicious! With Wine Combination. We never had Indian food with wine before as Indian food always works well with whisky but the experience we had with wine we cannot explain in words.

Beautifully decorated dished with explaination on each item

Will visit again soon with large group.

Holy, I dare to say that this is the best Indian Cuisine restaurant in entire BENELUX region. Had the opportunity to dine at several restaurants while we visit Rotterdam and none of Indian restaurant came close to the quality of food and service that we experienced at The Pepper Trail. It's little hard to find the location as it's located on the end of the street.

Opted for 3 course dinner menu, found bit expensive but food quality compensate that, from Amuse Bouche to Dessert we got explaination for everything. Talking with chef on spice and wine combination was an amazing experience.

I was with my husband to celebrate our marriage anniversary, after reading a reviews we were not sure but as told by our friend we visited The Pepper Trail. Chef cooks amazing food. Specially Almond Naan you will never find in entire Holland like this restaurant. Best combination here is Butter chicken + roti, Bollywood bombay prawns and Mango Lassi with Lamb Samosa.

Short version: after having been neglected and ignored for 90 minutes and having been served cold food that we didn't order, we left without paying. Probably the worst restaurant experience ever.

Long version: We booked a set 6-course meal through promotional email campaign good two weeks beforehand. We arrived about 5 minutes late and because our table was not ready yet we were asked to wait at the bar. The bar was full with empty glasses (that waited there to be put away?) and there was no space really for us to sit down. We had to clear the bar ourselves and get the chairs out of their locks in order to sit down.

We were offered a drink while we wait. We enquired what would be a good aperitif for an Indian meal and were advised a white wine that will go well with the first course that was going to be mango.

Groups of people kept arriving and most of them were taken directly to the tables, including another couple that arrived about 15 min after us. It soon started looking like the staff did not really have control over the restaurant, two of them would take the same drinks to the same table, they were walking in each other's way and so on. At one point, it looked like they may have forgotten about us so I enquired if the table was indeed being prepared. This was confirmed.

After another 10 or so min of waiting (about 20-25 in total), one of the waiters pointed his fingers at us and shouted across the room that our table was ready. We thought this to be an unusual display of hospitality but nevertheless followed him, by that time rather concerned with what was going on. We were set at the table and - forgotten about again.

After another 15 min we called a waitress to enquire when we could expect our food. She apologised and offered a drink while we wait. We said, clearly irritated by then, that we'd already had the while-we-wait-drink and would like our food now. She came back with a menu, upon which we informed her that we had booked a set menu and did not need to choose anything. She apologised and went to fetch another member of staff (who'd ignored us once before). He then came to ask whether we'd like vegetarian or meat and we opted for one of each. Nothing happened for another 15 minutes. By then, we'd been in the restaurant for an hour and no food whatsoever was served to us.

While all this was going on, we noticed that about 4 to 5 guests had to get up from their tables to go and look for members of staff to serve them. At the same time, the chef was serving food in the restaurant. One guest took a member of staff to their table and there seemed to be an argument going on. Soon after that, another group of 4-5 guests left the place unhappy and was having an argument with the chef and a couple of staff at the reception desk.

The guests at the tables next to us, at least three tables that we could see, were all sat there, some longer than us, with no food and looking increasingly grumpy. Food was served to some of the other tables though.

The five-strong staff (excluding the barman and the chef) continued to walk around hastily, mainly in one same straight line, totally ignoring most of the tables that were located off that straight line.

An hour into waiting for food, we called the chef and informed him of this and said that if we didn't get any food within five minutes, we would leave. He apologised and promised to bring food. He certainly did, within five minutes, but it was two meat portions (no vegetarian that we'd chosen), explaining that it would be followed by 3 more courses. We'd booked a 6-course meal, but at that point we just wanted to eat something and did not get into argument. It was a chicken dish, the portions were not of the same size (one was clearly bigger than the other) and - it was cold. It was also rather spicy, but we were never asked if we were OK with spicy food, Plates were then taken and nothing much happened for another 10-15 minutes.

We asked the waitress if she could bring us at least some naan bread or poppadums while we wait, which she immediately did. The baskets were obviously readily available but for some reason not offered to customers.

When nothing happened for another 15 minutes, 90 minutes into our entering the restaurant, we just got up and left. We heard other guests wondering out loud whether they should do the same. On our way out, we passed three members of staff at the reception desk; two said nothing and one kept apologising. Nobody even tried to charge us for two drinks and a starter (no mango) that we'd had. They were either too embarrassed to do so or, more likely, did not have any control nor any oversight of what was going on at the restaurant.

I guess it doesn't go much worse than this. Do not even bother to go to The Pepper Trail.
