Have been to Swallows Return on many occasions but have to say this was the worst experience I have had. Poor service, waiting over an hour to have food served. Very poor excuses give by staff as to reasons. Dispute carried over when bill paid. Wont be going again anytime soon.

I chose to book at the Swallows and my partner was reluctant. His steak was tough and he asked for medium with just a little pink and it was basically raw. free deserts didn't really make up for a wasted main course and deserts were needed because we were still hungry. won't go again, how can a good chef get such a basic wrong.

We were greeted with a very warm welcome and were immediately told of a couple of things that weren’t available, which included no pizzas, hunters chicken, prawns and scallops, fine there were plenty of other things to choose from! So we all looked at the menu , gave our order and waited, the waiter then came back and told us there was no calamari, so 2 of us had to change our order, for mains 2 of us had the fish cakes, which I’m not going to lie were awful, you couldn’t taste the fish as it was overtaken by the spices which in turn made them extremely dry! As I only ate half my meal I had room for dessert so we all had a look and 2 of us ordered, I ordered the panna cotta and my friend ordered the caramel torte, the waitress then came back and said there was no torte so my friend chose something else, the waitress went off and then returned apologising that they didn’t have any panna cotta either!! I felt so sorry for the staff but I was also getting quite frustrated, we had bought our friends here for their anniversary and it was turning out to be very embarrassing, I don’t think we will be rushing back anytime soon

The service was a bit slow but the place was packed so it was understandable. Nevertheless the staff were very friendly and helpful and there was a warm and friendly atmosphere.

We booked last minute for a table of 10 and we where not disappointed! It was empty for some reason (maybe because we booked for 14;30pm) but we asked to switch tables which was fine we ended up sitting in a really cosy snug area next to an open fire. The waitress was so so lovely the decor is absolutely beautiful and the food was delicious! What a lovely way to spend our daughters 1st birthday. Thank you!

Staff were lovely all round. Starter of scallops and chorizo on bed of peas, looked small but was actually a perfect portion size. Simply delicious Lasagne left allot to be desired as was stated at beef and red wine lasagne. Couldn't taste the wine so tasted like a pre heated shop bought Job Overall would come again. Lighting was really doing my eyes in too. Don't know why tho

OUR SERVER, LORRAINE,, MADE US VERY WELCOME AND COMFORTABLE, ALL THE STAFF WERE VERY ATTENTIVE, THE FOOD WAS SERVED IN REASONABLE TIME AS THE RESTAURANT WAS BUSY AT THE TIME, WE WERE ALLOWED TO TAKE OUR TIME OVER THE MEAL WHICH WAS VERY GOOD PLENTIFUL AND TASTY, WITH NO HASSLING, OVERALL AN EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE .HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Good welcome but over PC which was not appreciated. Harvey took his time to order our drinks, they came after or food arrived. The 2 roast dinners were warm getting cold quickly, very little meat, hard roast potatoes and we were called guys, we are not guys. Waitress used the word ‘we’ instead of ‘you’, most weird, food very expensive for what you get, not going back.

I went to a Christmas meal at the Swallows Return about 10 years ago and was very impressed by the food, I had a meal there last night and it was just as good. The restaurant is spotless and the staff are lovely. Will definitely not leave it as long next time.

Easy to book and easy to find and park. Service a little slow as a table of 8 ordered just before us and so were served first. Polite service and reasonable meal when it arrived. I ate with my elderly Aunt, we had one course each.
