8/10A good meal as ever in the White Lion. I had guests from overseas so it was important that everything went well. My only (minor) comment - for the second time I've eaten there in 6 weeks there was no mustard of any kind available. English mustard is a 'must' (no pun intended) for the steaks that the White Lyon chefs do very well. One Stop and Sainsbury's over the road sell mustard, so why is this a problem?

8.5/10We had the Sunday roast and a burger. Food was good with ample portions. The service was mostly excellent. Staff were very accommodating with our requested changes to the burger due to our food requirements. The server was not very good at describing the braised beef layer but it was OK in the end. All in all a very enjoyable lunch

4.5/10Really disappointed with our visit to the white Lion last night. The service was poor, with staggered meals, starter arrived with one missing, table wasn’t cleared before the mains arrived, the waiter then didn’t navigate the table and consequently dropped red hot gravy all over me and my husband, then failed to return with anything to clean it up and I had to ask for some napkins to try and mop myself up once my leg cooled down, however perhaps the lack of napkins might have been down to the fact they were being substituted for toilet roll in the ladies. The main course was poor, with over cooked lamb fillets that We struggled to cut and dry cottage pie, We didn’t see a waiter during our meal and were unable to order more drinks and then when one finally arrived to offer dessert we decided we had endured long enough and didn’t want to take the risk of anymore hot liquids so we chose to get the bill which we had to go and remind them at the bar to bring when it didn’t materialise. The young waiter was very apologetic when we left about the gravy incident and we did reassure him no lasting damage was done, just some additional washing of coats and clothes when we get home, however having been a favourite for pub grub in the past and enjoyed the occasional evening here when family visit we were less than impressed. Apologise as I would always prefer to leave something positive and I know how busy the staff where and how hard this industry is to work in, but this time I just wasn’t the experience we had hoped for. ????

5.5/10Our Sunday lunches were character-free and luke warm, with roast potatoes being especially dull. On the plus side, the chips with the fish and chips were great and the staff were lovely.

10/10We had a really nice meal here although the menu is a bit limited, especially if you are a vegetarian. It would be nice to see a bit more choice like some of the other vintage inns.
