The young lady who served us was very helpful and friendly, the food was delicious, the only downfall was the tables were left with dirty plates and surroundings but that may have been due to staff shortages but on the whole a lovely meal

I visit the Toby carvery regularly. First of all, I commend again the new deputy manager Rob, who is friendly, helpful and does everything he can to make the customer enjoy their experience at the branch in Southend. He is fairly new but has excellent people skills and gives people time, and checks to see they are ok. He was also checking the staff from time to time, during our visit there, to make perfectly sure everything was running as smoothly as possible. The only thing which has changed is that customers can no longer split the bill, which caused some distress to the person I was with - apparently it is Toby's new policy. The only way round this is to pay at the bar BEFORE eating, or as you come in!

The Toby carvery Prince Ave, Southend, is a great place to go for a good carvery. One point In would make is that all the veggies seemed to be saturated in oil/butter and would be helpful if they were not as some people like myself cannot digest oils/butter easily due to surgery. The new manager ROB is charming and polite, great people skills and it was his first week. Don't change, Rob, You are a great asset. There was a problem with the printing of receipts/bills and one or two people waiting too long either to pay or receive a receipt. One customer was told that the bill could not be split into two separate bills.

very nice busy and bustling place. Food - good. Pleasant staff although rushed off their feet. The only thing I would like to draw attention to is the ladies toilets were dirty, some broken, no loo roll in some and others left much to be desired. maybe someone could be allocated to do an hourly/bi-hourly check/replenishment of loo rolls etc during busy times

Great service, great food and friendly staff! A bit of a distance from the serving area, otherwise excellent! The Toby Roast is one of my favourite places to eat!

I'm sorry but last night they were short of staff which ment food was so slow there was too much play between staff then work done and the heat was over wealming so uncomfortable it was we had our food which was lovely but we could not socialise because of the heating must of been on too high and no air circulation which I almost fainted so once we ate we left with no desert. I've been there many times that was not nice... I wanted to be honest

Fab mid week roast, excellent value for money. Our only criticism is the vegetables were very limited choice and sparse when we were there and the potatoes were very dry - all felt it had been sitting under the heat too long. That said, flavour and quality was all good. We would return at a busier service. Staff an service were excellent!

Three in our party. We were shown to our table and told our waiter would be with us shortly. However, we had to ask to order drinks after 10 minutes waiting. Whilst waiting a member of staff obviously arrived a bit late for his shift and when questioned by a colleague he explained that he’d had to run part of the way to be told “well you should have run all the way!” Not very professional. We then had to wait in line for 20 minutes then, when we got our food, the roast potatoes were like mush and the cabbage dried out. To cap it all the food was warm. When we told the waitress she offered to warm it up. Overall a very disappointing visit which we will not be repeating.

The waitress Jo very accommodating and always with a smile. When I told her that I was not happy with the cut of meat (beef) she went to get me some turkey. The cut of meet had connective tissue very chewy. We are used to visiting Toby Carvery A bit everywhere that there is one but never experienced such a bad one in Southend. Apart from that was an experience never to forget as had excellent attention from Jo but the cut of meat has left a bitter taste in my throat.

Good food and staff, however the Yorkshire puddings were uncovered and not behind screen. Member of the public was able to poke at them . This was mentioned and the staff changed them for fresh , so well done to them. Otherwise everything was fine

Waitresses are truly wonderful. We have had several negative experiences at the entrance desk at the entrance in the past which is a great shame. Once I had a party of 6 people walk out because we were ignored at the desk. That was a couple of years ago now. I was most disappointed as I know the food is excellent.
