Very good
Given Covid-19 they have adapted superbly to social distancing, in some ways more authentic local atmosphere than you would think, a lovely night with quality local food.
We loved this restaurant so much we ate their twice during our stay in Salento. I live in Italy and one of the best, simple pasta dishes I have. Our food was better the first time (in July) versus the second (in August) but still good. I don’t recommend the house red.
We were welcomed in a nice fashion to this little trattoria on the square. The host was friendly enough to make us feel welcome. We had a reservation but being off season as we were in late September we Lilly didn’t need one. We we were seated immediately and given our menus. Locals arrived after us and received better attention than us, and we understand this as they will be return customers. We were served last amongst the 5 tables and so had the opportunity to see several dishes come out of the kitchen - they all looked great, good looking and hot (steam rising from the plate as they were served), unfortunately we did not get any of this. Our food was served room temperature or cooler either because it was not made fresh or because the server was busy with the locals and left our food in the kitchen too long, I had orchiaetta and meat balls which was the worst pasta I have had in Perugia in the last 3 weeks, possible ever. The sauce was simple and bland and the meatballs like they were made yesterday. My wife had the mozzarella ravioli which was cold and hard. The tuna steak was tasty but almost cold and was to be accompanied with orange and red fruit of which there was none. We were never asked if the food was to our liking and left without a desired to return. My suggestion to the owner would be to treat you foreign guests like your locals and serve the food you know how to cook properly. Like I said there was good food there we just didn’t get it. ☹️ There are lots of very good trattoria in Perugia that serve excellent food without having to guess what is good. Go there instead. (Our bad for eating in the square, always a risk) Cheers!
The welcoming service & delicious food were excellent! Our party of 10 thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Trattoria Picalo. Thank you so much!!
