Excellent restaurant. Honest and delicious food. Recommended by our hotel, Sintra1012 Guesthouse. We ate several times here during our stay in Sintra. The staff, Carlos and Nelson are very personable, fun and provided excellent recommendations both for food and wine.

The restaurant was traditionally decorated, the waiters were very busy so not the most welcoming but ok, my partner’s fried prawn dish was very tasty but I was highly disappointed in their bacalhau com natas dish.

It is usually made with potatoes to give it consistency, however this was just cod, cream and cheese.
Definitely wouldn’t return again for this

Charles welcomed us so warmly when we entered we knew immediately we would have a great experience. Options for full dinner or tapas will meet everyone's needs. Food is good, without ostentation. Not on the main streets so not full of tourists which we enjoyed. Charles not only very knowledgeable on wines, but several languages and geography of our country...impressive. We had sword fish steak, soup and typical Sintra style goat cheese. Guaranteed pleasant.

The food was fairly average but we had the most amazing evening in this cosy restaurant. The ambience created by the multilingual waiters with an exceptional knowledge of wine and port, that they imparted with humour, created an experience second to none. Definitely a restaurant to visit when visiting Sintra..

I would call this place a tourist trap. Recommended by my guest house, it was disappointing. Very crowded. Very noisy. Waiters running. The food was not what we had experienced in other restaurants in Portugal. Very poor and loveless presentation. Small portion size. The waiters are great, though, handling the masses and still cracking a joke...

Tulhas is the restaurant to go for in Sintra. Really good food, try the polpa (octopus). They know a lot about wine, so ask them to recommend a wine with the dish you have chosen. The price is bang on for the offered foodquality and service, and they charge normal Portuguese prices for the drinks, as opposed to some of the restaurants in the square opposite of the castle. quit a lot of tourist traps in Sintra, but NOT Tulhas. Recommended full heartedly.

We arrived 15 minutes earlier at 8.45 pm and were told that the kitchen would close at 9 pm (which was our original booking time). So the service was a bit rushed and we later realised that we had eaten what they had kind of ready cooked so we would not take very long time to dine. Our original intention was to have octopus on its own but we ended up with octopus and prawns. The prawns were a bit burnt on one side and we thought they had been overcooked or cooked and later "re-heated".
The staff were very friendly but they were clearly exhausted and a bit stressed so the ambiance was not the best.
Half way through our bottle of wine the "sommelier" asked us if he could try it. We kindly agree but this has never happened to us. Normally they could try it before serving it to make sure is OK.
