The pearl of Anloo

Here come all the good things of Drenthe together. Combine a nice search, hiking or mountain biking in the Strubben - Kniphorstbos with lounging, drinks and food in the welcoming Woodz Lounge & Restaurant. This unique environment is also known as a prehistoric peak, with ancient dolmens, burial mounds and settlements. From the sunny terrace you have a nice view of the woods. Here you could order à la carte Drents Nagelhout, a local specialty. Or let the chef surprise you with a surprise menu.

Don't judge a restaurant on its outer image. This wisdom we learned very early during our travels in Italy, where the most luxury and fine restaurants may be tucked away in shabby buildings. Peeling plaster on the outside and shining white table cloth and crystal glasses on the inside. We had obtained a Groupon voucher for Woodz restaurant in Anloo as part of a long weekend in the northern part of the Netherlands. We were a bit surprised, that the sat nav directed us to the Anloo camping ground and restaurant Woodz seemed to be situated in the wooden barrack-like camping ground main building. But keeping the Italian wisdom in mind we stepped inside and indeed discovered a nicely appointed restaurant with a luxury atmosphere. Close to the restaurant entrance is a lounge bar, where you can have a drink or a coffee and liqueur after dinner. The service of the staff is quiet, polite and dedicated, so no complaints there. I enjoyed the food; unfortunately the chef had run out of salmon, but the replacement, fillet of plaice, was well prepared and tasty. The dessert, panna cotta, was turned out nicely and tasted satisfactory. The only complaint I have is my usual general complaint about the elevated Dutch restaurant prices, which we combated effectively with the Groupon voucher. With this voucher the total bill was just in line with prices in other European countries. So everybody was happy.
