El más internacional y prestigioso chef peruano, Gastón Acurio, ha vuelto a decantarse por el corazón de L'Eixample, donde ya estuvo tras los fogones de Tanta –que ahora se ha convertido en Totora y ha pasado a manos de su antiguo jefe de cocina–, para abrir su nuevo restaurante: Yakumanka. O lo que en idioma quechua significa “la olla de las aguas, del mar, de los ríos, de los lagos, de la vida”.

En Barcelona, Yakumanka es una cevichería y aquí Acurio quiere reproducir el ambiente de La Mar, el famoso restaurante que posee en Lima (Perú). El concepto es una mezcla de casa de comidas tradicional (dado el decorado con esencia marinera e inscripciones con un punto kitsch, que nos trasladan de inmediato a la capital del país andino), pero también de modernidad y desenfado. Y la carta, una mezcla de los mejores productos de las aguas de España y las recetas más auténticas peruanas. Hay una larga barra donde sentarse a tomar una copa, y otra donde degustar los platos fríos de la casa: ceviches, causas, tiraditos, anticuchos, brasas...

Our main waitress was awesome! She made us feel confortable and at ease. One of the other staff was rather blunt and borderline rude so that wasn’t too much fun. The food was great but I expected a little more on the flavour department after the steep pricetag, but it was still good. I did not like the maracuya sour one bit, it was too much. Also, the deserts are made to be shared so one per person might be a bit too much, Overall, good restaurant with a few issues but the food mostly made up for them.

It was a special ocasion, New Years eve. It was a last minute reservation and we were happy to find one at Yukumanka, knowing it is owned by Gaston Acurio, a highly reputable chef from Peru. The food was outstanding and the service very friendly and akin with the informal style of the restaurant.

Overall good but too expensive. Dishes could be more garnished with veggies. I recommend tuna tiradito, char siu razor clams, lomo saltado and dessert with Dulce de leche and milky cake (amazing!). Chocolate dessert is too dry. Atmosphere is super nice and trendy.

As you enter the restaurant you can feel the good vibes of what is about to happen...Peruvian cuisine at its best. Every dish was as good as expected and the icing on the cake was the 3 leches dessert. Simply amazing. The waiter and the waitresses were friendly and attentive.

A few things to pay attention:
1 Meat dishes anticucho trio, lomito saltado were really good.
2 They said that all dishes are for sharing, but if you are two people, these two are enough. Don't order the third dish up-front; order later if you still feel hungry. Waiter doesn't seem to know suitable quantity for two guests, despite being very friendly.
3 Super Jalea was very, very disappointing. It was a composition of baby squids, 4 mussels and 3 prawns, deep-fried in flour. Absolutely avoid.
4 Over-priced despite the service.
5 Not a fine dining restaurant, despite the price.
6 Will not return.

Everything about this place is great. Amazing, fresh food full of flavour. Authentic drinks. Super friendly and knowledgable staff. Will come again for sure.
